This project, The Heart Ward, written by award-winning writer Max Hafler charts a stay in his local hospital with heart failure, explores advocacy and dealing with the hospital system. In doing so, the poems contrast his experience now, with his birth and early childhood, with the condition spina bifida occulta.  
The project is to be presented as a work in progress in Cuirt International Festival of Literature 2026.
