"Blame is a coin passed down from hand to hand "
by Lorna Shaughnessy directed by Max Hafler
After its highly successful run at the Cuirt International Literature Festival in 2017 , this production is doing a special performance at the Heaney Homeplace on September 22nd .
This spoken word poetry performance event by acclaimed poet and translator Lorna Shaughnessy directed by Max Hafler. uses movement, rhythm, masks, words and music. Not a play nor a poetry reading, it explores the blame game, the engine and machinery of war, and our seeming helplessness in the wake of catastrophe, through characters surrounding the start of the Trojan War. The audience become judge and jury not just of the characters but of themselves too. Lorna Shaughnessy is an acclaimed poet and translator with three collections of poetry to her name. This project emerged from a section in her most recent work, Anchored, published by Salmon.
This project was first performed as a ‘work-in-progress’ on November 23rd 2016 to a packed crowd in the New NUIG theatre as part of 'Arts In Action'. Cuirt asked us to develop the work. As with all CTPI productions the piece was worked on using Chekhov principles as the bedrock of the work.
